Deep holes exist scattered around pavements in the center of the city. In the area of this workshop (one block)
we counted 49 of them! People often fall, breaking arms and legs. They exist in crowded pavements,
in front of shops, at the bottom of stairs.

We decided to signalize these holes with 3 goals in mind:– to avoid people falling; to call for the attention of the municipality
in solving this problem; creating a way finding system.
To do this we signalized the holes by painting around them with bright colours. We stenciled images related to information
on the area around the holes. In this way we created the first way finding system for downtown Maputo.
This was a very slow job. We kept finding more and more holes... Here a part of the work process and most
of the holes painted are presented.
